Craig Phillips said: “I’m honoured to be asked to the opening ceremony and to also host the Arena show this year. I’m a massive Beatles fan and it’s fantastic that their musical legacy can help benefit lots of charitable causes across the city. I’m also pleased to be doing my bit to help raise funds for charity by taking part in an abseil down the Liver buildings.”
Andrew Lancel, who is famous for his role in ITV drama, The Bill, added: “The Beatles are the heartbeat of Liverpool and I’m delighted to be able to show my support for the Beatles Day foundation, which is a fantastic grass roots charity. The fab four lads from Liverpool changed the world and it is great that their legacy is still living on through a world-wide charitable event.”
Gill O’Neill, Beatles Day organiser, commented: ”Despite a few rain showers during the day, everybody had a great day and really enjoyed themselves. The volunteers were really enthusiastic and the bands really threw themselves in to the spirit of the day. On behalf of the Foundation, I’d like to thank everybody who took part and all the public that donated or bought a ticket. If you missed the event you can still donate at www.beatlesday.tv. If anybody wants to be involved in next year’s event then please let me know!”
Zeligs, Liverpool’s largest Italian restaurant, donated the venue for the all-day gig, which took place from 11am to 6pm, along with an exclusive Aftershow Party from 10.30pm until late.
Lisa Dixon, General Manager at Zeligs commented: “We were thrilled to team up with the Beatles Day foundation to host the official opening ceremony and aftershow party for this year’s event. We had lots of visitors throughout the day and would like to thank all the bands and celebrities for their support.”
Beatles Day The Concert– the Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Show took place at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday 10th July. The show was performed by some of Liverpool’s best musicians including the Backbeat Beatles and the Liverpool Signing Choir who were amongst special guest singers.
Donations from the event went to the Beatles Day Foundation, which raises money for local worthy causes in particular those which promote the health and well being of children and young people.

Beatles Day Launch 2010
Liverpool’s Hard Days Night Hotel is counting down to host its first ever live balcony gig in celebration of the Beatles world famous rooftop performance in 1969.
World - renowned Beatles tribute band, The Backbeat Beatles, will be performing a live gig on the balcony of the hotel’s famous John Lennon Suite to the unsuspecting city centre shoppers below, to mark the hotel’s support for the Beatle’s Day foundation.
The gig, which has been organised ahead of Liverpool’s third annual
Beatles Day on the 10th July, will mimic the Beatles famous afternoon rooftop performance on the 30th January 1969, when the Beatles surprised a central London office with an impromptu performance on the top of the building.
The Backbeat Beatles will recreate the popular gig with a performance of four of the Beatles most famous hits, including ‘A Hard Days Night’ (of course), ‘Twist and Shout’, ‘I saw her standing there’, and ‘Get Back’, which featured in the Beatles very own rooftop performance.
